The exercises on this page are excellent warmup exercises as well as endurance and coordinative builders. I use them to spot check my progress against various tempos.

I usually start a practice session by going through the following one handed exercise at various tempos. It is a great warmup, and when each accent variation is played for two measures it makes a great endurance as well as coordinative exercise. I start at mm = 100. After each hand plays the exercise, I move the tempo up to 105. I continue moving the met. up if I successfully play the exercise with each hand.

The videos below show each hand at 115. My best tempo for 8 counts of each accent variation has been mm = 120.

This next exercise will test your coordination.

This clip shows the gridded paradiddle flams played at 120.

Here's the gridded paradiddle flams played at two counts per accent. Again, this tests your coordination.

The shorter gridded paradiddle flams played at 132.

Here is the singles/doubles/paradiddles exercise that will test your transition coordination. Make sure it is smooth going into the doubles from the singles.

The singles/doubles/paradiddles exercise played at 144.

And last, my favorite one handed exercise. It is an old Phantom Regiment exercise from the late 70's.

Here's a clip that shows the PR one-handed at 144.
