Here are 3 examples of timing exercises where the time on the ride cymbal changes.
For exercises 1 and 2 the snare & bass rhythms remain the same.
Number 3 is the same exercise as number 6 on page 2, but the ride cymbal time changes with each repetition. It is considerably more difficult since the bass rhythm is not constant. You may skip the lines with the dotted 8th's if it is too challenging. Practice them separately, and add them back in when you get the feel.
You could reverse the ride cymbal rhythms; start with the slower rhythms and increase the speed of the timing after each repetition.
These 3 provide just a sample of what can be practiced by altering the timing of the ride cymbal.
